Self Esteem Boost

Self Esteem Boost

Every morning Little Bear gets up and comes into our bedroom for cuddles before getting up for breakfast.  It’s usually a lovely family time with lots of kisses, cuddles, and teddy sharing.  Usually…

Today I just got abuse!  “Want to see mummy’s legs”, said Little Bear pulling back the duvet.  “Oooooh, they’re very big legs”…thanks baby, love you too!  And even though he then pointed to his own legs and said, “My legs are very small”, the damage was done.

I understand your meaning Little Bear, my legs are very big compared to yours, and I will try not to take it to heart, but next time, I would prefer you to use daddy as a comparrison!

Stamp of Approval

Stamp of Approval

Today we went to gymnastics for the first time in just over a month.  Our absence hasn’t been for any reason other than other things just kept happening on Wednesdays, but I think it probably did us both good to have a little break.

Little Bear had a great time today.  We started with the warm up as usual and then played some parachute games which he loved.  He was then let loose and was running, jumping, and swinging his way around the gym.

At the end the children all get together to stamp their sheets and their hands.  They all love this bit!  Usually, Little Bear will do his stamps and then put it back.  Today, he said, “Now mummy’s turn?”, in his high pitched, questioning voice with his head cocked to one side.  Dutifully I presented my hands and had a stamp on each one…high praise indeed, I clearly did something right today!

A Bike Crash and a Peppa Pig Party

A Bike Crash and a Peppa Pig Party

Today has been a good day for Little Bear.  It started with football first thing this morning which was outside for the first time.  By all accounts he loved it and told daddy he didn’t want him to do it with him, we’ve had a surge in independence since hitting 2! When he came home he asked to go out on his balance bike, and so we did.

He’s getting very confident on it now and goes much faster than I expected him to.  He stopped when we asked him to, and he stayed to one side if he saw people coming.  But then he got over confident.  He realised that if he went fast enough he could lift his feet in the air and keep going.  This was all very impressive and hilarious to watch until he lost his balance, crashed, and skidded along the floor.  Luckily his helmet took most of the impact and has suffered a few scratches; Little Bear came away with a grazed nose and a fat lip but still keen to ride.  We have always said he needs to wear a helmet and this really did highlight why.

After lunch, sleep, and family cuddles, we went to a party.  They had a children’s entertainer singing songs for the first part and he was brilliant!  The older children found him hilarious, as did the adults, and the younger children were mesmerised (some traumatised) by him.  He made it interactive with instruments, toys, and puppets, and Little Bear got involved…until he spied fairy cakes and then he went on a secret mission to squirrel one away.

There was a special guest at the party too…Peppa Pig!  Little Bear doesn’t really watch it but was excited, in his own muted way, when she arrived.  Whilst the other children were jumping up and down and hugging Peppa, Little Bear was standing back, waving, saying “Hello Peppa”!

For the whole party he probably said about 10 words and barely cracked a smile…but on the way home he was full of excitement as he recapped the whole experience and sang Happy Birthday!

And now it’s all over.  He’s in bed recharging for tomorrow, Daddy is out drinking beer, and I’m settling down with a family sized pack of Galaxy Minstrels and have every intention of eating the lot!

“I Want Pants!”

“I Want Pants!”

We’re currently in a tricky place when it comes to all things toilet related.  Little Bear has decided that nappies are for babies, and that he wants to wear pants…sometimes.  This would be wonderful and something to celebrate if it wasn’t for the fact that he won’t use the toilet and is incredibly reluctant to sit on the potty.

We’ve had a potty in the house for a while now, and every now and then he will sit on it.  We had a couple of weeks where every poo was on it jut then it got forgotten about.  But now, ask him to sit on it and you get a mini melt down.  He will only sit on it if you make him snug with a blanket…26 degrees in here yesterday and he’s wrapped in a fluffy blanket!!!

The thing is, he knows when he’s going to wee because he stands still and watches it.  And after an hour of wearing pants in the evening and not weeing, he will jump in the bath, look at you, smile, and wee!!  He’s a monkey!!

Having said all this, we just bought a Potette Plus which can be used as a toilet seat or a travel potty.  I was just looking and Little Bear said he wanted to have it, so we talked about weeing and sitting on the toilet like Mummy and Daddy for about 10 minutes in the middle of Boots before deciding, okay, let’s do it!

We got home and he wanted to try it straight away.  He was so excited about sitting on it, he said he was like us and that he would do his wee wees in the toilet…and he did! After a few minutes of happily sitting he did a wee.

He was so excited and proud of himself!  And so was I!  He went to bed telling me he would do it again when he woke up.  I’m not holding out much hope, and I know there’s a long road ahead, but it’s a start!!

We aren’t in any rush to potty training, we know it will happen when he is ready.  The thing is, Little Bear wants to be ready now even though developmentally he isn’t quite there.  I can’t discourage him though,  I don’t want to tell him he can’t wear pants because he isn’t ready, so I’m just accepting that my washing machine may now be in more frequent use!  Time to embrace the miniature pants and frequent toilet trips!

Little Bear’s First Album

Little Bear’s First Album

Singing is top of Little Bear’s list of “Things To Do” at the moment, and I think we’ve built up a repertoire big enough for an album of covers.

Topping the bill, and probably the first single to be released, is “Horsey Horsey”.  He’s got nearly every word of this and along with the actions it’s got everything you need for a top 10 hit!

The album will also feature classics such as “See-saw Marjory Daw”, “Baa Baa Black Sheep”, and “The Grand Old Duke of York”, before moving onto the more modern “Down in the Jungle” and “Monkeys Jumping on the Bed”.

And of course we need a few dance tracks.  For these he’s offering “The Hokey Cokey”, “Dingle Dangle Scarerow”, and of course, “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”.  To round it off there’s a gentle rendition of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” and an off key version of “Twinkle, Twinkle”.

If you play the album through you’ll also find a hidden bonus track, “Happy Birthday”, because who doesn’t love to have that sung 20 times a day all year round?!

And that’s just Volume 1…Do you think it would sell?!

2nd Birthday Shenanigans!

2nd Birthday Shenanigans!

It’s over and we survived…the 3 day celebrations of Little Bear’s second birthday.

We started with presents on Friday morning.  This was a very slow moving part of the celebrations – rip the corner of the paper, “oh what is it?”, rip another bit, “oooh”, rip another bit, “oooh it’s a book/puzzle/game/etc”, 10 more rips and the present is out, “read/play/open/do it”…or how about we move onto the next present because daddy does actually have to go to work again sometime before next month!!!

But he loved it, and was excited, and I would much rather that then total disinterest and complacency, which is kind of what I expected from a two year old.  We then spent the morning at the park with a whole bunch of friends which he loved, and we had a Thomas cake so that made him even happier.

We had the afternoon with in laws which was nice and then had a late night because he wanted to open all hus presents from his friends before going to bed, “Might open 1” turned into actually opening about 20!

Saturday and Sunday were just as crazy with friends visiting, football, family get togethers, cake, a party, more cake, more presents, and all topped off with a bit more cake!!

By Sunday afternoon we were exhausted even if he wasn’t! And there’s not going to be any rest from here on in as he’s constantly asking to go on his scooter and bike now!!
